Greg Holthaus Memorial Fund and MCORE Foundation to offer Madison County Preventative Cardiac Screenings
1 Youth Dies Every 3 Days; Heart Screenings Should Be Routine, Group Says
POWELL, Ohio –Lisa Tennenbaum, executive director, and CEO of MCORE Foundation today announced the launch of a partnership with Greg Holthaus Memorial Fund, Glen Carbon Fire Protection District and Madison County, Illinois to educate and provide preventative heart screenings for youths aged 12 – 22 across the county to prevent sudden cardiac arrest (SCA).
“It’s tragic and unnecessary: One young person dies from sudden cardiac arrest every three days on a school campus in America,” said Tennenbaum. “Undetected congenital heart defects are the culprit, and routine heart screenings are the solution. SCA kills more than 400,000 people each year in the United States. More than 10,000 of these youths, aged 12 – 22.
“MCORE Foundation is partnering to drive awareness and education programs to increase understanding of the scope of the SCA problem, the value of prevention, and the critical importance of baseline cardiac evaluations for all youth,” said Tennenbaum. “We are eager to enlist the support of local foundations, fire protection services to inform schools and parents about the need to screen youth for heart defects. More awareness saves lives.”
MCORE Foundation preventative baseline cardiac evaluations for youths aged 12 – 22 in Madison County, Illinois, will be offered August 13 & August 14th, from 9am- 5pm, at the Glen Carbon Fire Protection facility. For more information or to register (must register prior to screening, limited spots available) go to www.mcorefoundation.org
The mission of MCORE Foundation is to provide education, screening and enable research for sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) for children and young adults.
